SAMMY RIMINGTON

and

NEW ORLEANS JAZZ

When Sammy was in Australia during  1997, we recorded two of the gigs at the Whitehorse Inn, Melbourne. Some of the tunes from the second gig were released on a CD. Shown below is the cover from this CD. The musical quality is really good with Sammy in wonderful form with Hugh de Rosayro providing some excellent work . The rhythm section bounces along in the true New Orleans Revival jazz fashion. The recording quality is first class and the recording has had some good reviews. Sammy plays both clarinet and saxophone. All our friends like the CD too, even those that have no real interest in jazz.

We have now released a CD from the first gig. The cover of this is shown below.

Sammy taught himself to play jazz clarinet when he was 16, back in 1958, stimulated by some recordings of the clarinetist George Lewis. He has a strong musical background studying guitar prior to taking up the clarinet. In two years, in 1960 he turned professional, joining the Ken Colyer band and had the "thrill" of touring with Colyer with George Lewis as guest in the band. Over the years Sammy played with all of the famous New Orleans jazz musicians available and spent some time in America. He now freelances and makes regular tours with his own band. He has made hundreds of recordings, so beware, if you buy this one, you could be wanting many others.

Both CDs are $25 each, and they can be purchased from us either together, or separately, for $25 each (Australian ) plus postage and packing. To start the ball rolling send us an EMail and we can send you further details. The EMail address is folfie@hotmail.com

Bill Bissonette, who was responsible for those wonderful December Band Recordings also operates a web site and sells some interesting jazz CDs.
